Chart Types

The Chart Type refers to the type of chart as displayed in the Chart type dropdown when creating a new chart:

A Chart Type defines a set of options available for a specific kind of chart. There can be multiple chart type definitions per kind of chart.

The Chart type defines a combination of the following:

  • Chart Kind;

  • Allowed Scales;

  • Default Scale;

  • Allowed Scale Bars;

  • Default Scale Bar;

  • Allowed Templates;

  • Ellipsoid Name;

  • Map Projection Name;

  • Default Grid Configuration;

  • Allowed Grid Configurations.

To open the Chart Types dashboard select the Chart Types button:

After selection of the Chart Types_button the Chart Types_ dashboard is displayed:

Chart types page layout

Use the vertical scroll bar to browse the available chart types.

At the bottom of the page, use the horizontal arrows to navigate through the chart types page by page. The number of visible chart types can be adjusted using the dropdown menu:

In the upper horizontal bar additional information is displayed showing the following categories and available sort by options:

The Is Standard category is used to include standard items that are provided by the system. E.g. for each kind of chart the system provides at least one standard Chart Type.

Search and Create Chart Type options

In upper right of the page are the Search and Create Chart Type options:

Select the Search option to find specific chart types:

Create Chart Type

Select Create Chart Type to access the Create Chart Type input page:

Available configuration categories for new chart types include:

  • Name;

  • Kind of chart;

  • Grid and Graticule;

  • Allowed Templates;

  • Allowed scales;

  • Allowed scale bars;

  • Map projection;

  • Ellipsoid.

Name

When creating a new chart type you should be careful to pick a name which describes the chart type sufficiently to other users.

Kind of chart

The Kind of chart option lists all of the available chart types for selection:

Grid and Graticule

A grid type definition contains all settings for border and reference line symbology, reference line intervals, tick mark intervals and label placement.

To select or deselect grids and graticules, check or uncheck their corresponding boxes. You can set any grid or graticule as the default by clicking the Set as Default button.

Allowed Templates

The Allowed Templates option lists all of the available chart templates for selection:

Template selection is managed by checking/unchecking the corresponding boxes.

Allowed scales

The Allowed scales option lists all of the available scales for selection:

Scale selection is managed via checkboxes. The default scale can be configured using the Set as Default control.

Allowed scale bars

The Allowed scale bars option lists all of the available scale bars for selection:

The scale bar visibility is controlled via checkbox. The Set as Default button establishes the default configuration.

Map projection

The Map projection option lists all of the available map projections for selection:

Ellipsoid

The Ellipsoid option lists all of the available ellipsoids for selection:

Cancel and Save

After configuring all settings, click Save to create your new chart type or Cancel to abort.

Once the chart type has been saved it will be listed in the Chart Types dashboard:

Chart types options

When selecting the ellipsis (A group of dots on a white background AI-generated content may be incorrect.) the following options are displayed:

View details

After selection of the View details button the Chart Type details are displayed:

Additional information can be accessed by selected in the dropdown arrow next to the category chosen:

Duplicate

After selection of the Duplicate button the Chart Type chosen will be duplicated and message confirming duplication will be displayed:

Disable

After selecting the Disable button, the chosen chart type is disabled and a confirmation message is displayed:

When a chart type is disabled, it is no longer available for selection when creating a new chart.

Enable

If a chart has been disabled, selecting the ellipsis (…) displays the Enable option. After selecting Enable, the chart type becomes active.
